Volunteer Tourism Projects »

We invite you to come on one of these Project Tours. They are a great way to give something back to your broader community or environment, directly participate in what you are giving and see some of the results.
Calling ourselves locally, environmentally and culturally responsible means looking hard at our impact and sustainability in the region and the people we work with.
Our tours are about providing people with opportunities to connect through new experiences, the wider community and our country's environment. So our next step is to create Community Development Projects.
As a small and local business in Central Australia, developing these projects is a way for us to give something back and provide support to the places and people we work with.
Our first projects will be scheduled for 2010. This means we will have had 18 months to plan and identify projects that will benefit and sustain the people and places with which we work. It is vital for us to take this time to work closely with both the people who receive the projects and the organisations supporting them to ensure the projects' success and long-term benefit.
When you come on one of these tours, you work as part of a project and the tour fee funds the project. As a business, we cover the costs associated with us running the tour, but the majority of your payment goes directly to the project, and not to us. In 2009, we will be establishing a transparent way for these funds to be gathered and used through a foundation or similar entity. Stay tuned for updates in this process.

The projects we're identifying help Aboriginal Outstations become more self-sufficient. They also help to create work and business opportunies for members of the community, leading to greater independence. We work closely with community members and other organisations to identify projects that people want and are happy to sustain. These projects just provide the much-needed boost to turn their ideas into reality through us—Trek Larapinta and you, our guests—providing a private source of funding and initiative.

Many people who have travelled through Central Australia or walked the Larapinta Trail have expressed a desire to return and experience it in a new—and often a giving—way. So whether this is your first time or you've been before, active participation in one of these projects is sure to be a memorable and rewarding way to experience this land. This is brand new, so stay tuned, and we will have more information soon.
