Trek Larapinta is a boutique trekking company that specialises in guided walking tours on the Larapinta Trail. Established in 1998 Trek Larapinta is a local pioneer of small group trekking tours on the Larapinta Trail. We think small is beautiful; being small we can focus on tour quality and sustainability, maintain strong local knowledge of the landscape and build meaningful connections within our community.
With its rugged, ancient landscape, the Larapinta Trail is one of the most spectacular multi-day hiking experiences in the world. We guide walking tours for small groups of 8-10 trekkers, along this magnificent trail. We employ passionate, highly experienced, professional guides, who deliver world class interpretive tours in one of the most spectacular places in Central Australia.
Trek Larapinta also offers volunteer programs on the Larapinta Trail, supports Indigenous enterprises and practices environmentally responsible travel. We do this in a place we know and love: the Larapinta Trail and Central Australia. These are special places for us. It’s a privilege to live here and share the experience with you. We understand that by looking after our wilderness areas and having a total ‘leave no trace’ policy we are preserving the areas that we visit for future generations. We abide by and believe in the philosophy that when you look after the land, the land looks after you.
Trek Larapinta wishes to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Central and Western Arrernte Country for allowing us the opportunity to share this magnificent place – the Larapinta Trail/Western MacDonnell region.
Every decision and action of ours takes these principles into account. Trek Larapinta:
I completed the Larapinta end to end with Trek in 2015. It was an amazing trip that rekindled my love of hiking. Last January I heard that it had got even better. I decided to return to do a 9 Day. While the hiking has largely remained the same – awesome, the bush camps and food have gone to the next level. As usual the Guides – Mikel and Zoe were superb. They kept the group safe, well educated and extremely well fed. The HiAce van is also a great improvement on the old troop carriers. I’d also like to mention Jess in Treks admin team. She has fixed up my booking mistakes several times. I undertake an average of 9 hiking trips a year – generally group guided. Trek Tours is easily the best hiking company in Australia.
We did the 6-day Larapinta trek in 2013 with this company, and did it again in 2024. The experience was wonderful 11 years ago, and just as good (if not better) the 2nd time. The landscape is heart-stopping, and the guides (who love the region and the work) do a great job of explaining the cultural and scientific significance of what we’re seeing. The days are long and quite challenging, but well within the capacity of any fit walker. The food (both in camp and on the trail) is outstanding!
What a great way to experience 6 days on the Larapinta trail! From Jess pre tour in the office to our two wonderful guides, Zoe & Em who made every day & every walk a very special one. The base camp was a beautiful bush setting near a dry river bed with big comfy tents for everyone, & inside a camp stretcher with swag, very warm & cosy sleeping bag & liner plus great food to eat for brekky & dinner around the camp fire. Snacks on the trail & fresh salad lunch in a wrap every day on the trail was amazing. The group size of just 10 was ideal. The scenery & views on the trail were absolutely stunning, the gorges, the ranges & climbing Mt Sonder in the darkness with our torches to see the dawn sunrise, was a real highlight of the week, fabulous. Thanks so much Trek Larapinta, highly recommend.
